  • Fougère Bengale - Tiger, tiger, burning bright....

It’s that transitional time of year when I know warmer weather is coming, I just don’t know when. I nudge nature a long a bit by taking the cover off the BBQ and putting the Muskoka chairs out on the deck. Looking good. Gotta get those hanging flower baskets hung. Need to fish my sunglasses out of the purse I was using last summer…. OK, now I’m ready for the warm weather. Anytime now. Waiting. Still waiting. Where is the heat?

  • Fille en Aiguilles - Just smells good! - May 26, 2010 New Fragrance Listing

One of the reasons I am drawn to niche perfumes is that smaller perfume houses, perfumers and indie brands don’t have to bow to the tastes of the mass market. They are free to take chances, to explore. It’s interesting to see what happens when a perfumer can use their talent, knowledge, skill, experience and any ingredients they like to make something they want to make - something truly unique.

  • Dans tes Bras - In your arms

  • Voleur de Roses – Girls' night in!

Last Saturday, we called up several close friends and had a “Girls' Night In”, instead of  “Girls' Night Out”. We had a lot of fun – in fact, it was so much fun we’re going to do it again! And what did we do, apart from eat, drink, talk, and laugh?.........we sniffed perfumes. Which was the main reason for all the talking and laughing.

  • Knize Ten – Calling all MEN! May 19, 2010

How many men’s fragrances from the 1920’s are still around today, and still smell good? Not many. They don’t make man-scents like this anymore – no marketing exec would have the guts!

Knize Ten is a leather fragrance, THE reference leather – and should definitely not be worn by boys, or boy-toys. It may not be suitable for some grown-up males either, but on the right MAN..... Ooohh - watch out!!

  • Al Oudh - Midnight at the oasis

  • Muscs Koublaï Khän - Holy Grail fragrance

  • Violet Empire - Maple trees, Spring accords

    Violet Empire - cbihateperfume,com

This is a bit of a ramble, so here goes……

Our house in downtown Toronto is surrounded by maple trees, which is not unusual in this city. Canada is the land of the maple leaf – it’s on our flag, our unofficial anthem is “The Maple Leaf Forever”.

  • Pomegranate Noir – What are you wearing?

I was sitting in a restaurant lounge with a group of friends, having a drink and catching up, when a stranger came up from behind me and whispered in my ear "Pomegranate Noir". Wow! What a conversation stopper that was! Heads at the table whipped round to face me and all eyes were locked on mine. I’m not sure, but I think I heard a leaf fall somewhere, the moment was that vivid for me. “What did she say?” everyone wanted to know. So I told them. They looked at me like I’d been chewing on tonka beans.

  • 1538 Rheims – Ultra-niche perfume - May 5, 2010 New Fragrance Listing

SOLD OUT -  1538 Rheims is no longer available from our Decant Store.

A couple of times a year, I have this experience – I find a new fragrance line and go “whoa, baby!” – which was what happened when I found the D.S. & Durga perfume collection for Anthropologie.
