  • Bulgari Black

Years ago when my mother-in-law visited us from England she got a real kick out of a sign that hangs over our street: No Ball Hockey Playing on Street.

  • Lolita Lempicka - Perfume or catnip? (August 25, 2010 New Fragrance Listing)

It seems I’m on a food jag lately with the blogs – pepper, coffee, and now licorice. I didn’t plan it, it’s just where my nose has led me over the past week or so. Maybe I lack something in my diet, or maybe I’m working up to a monumental junk food binge, but I’ve been digging in my perfume drawers for weird and wonderful foody smells – savoury, sweet, herbal – doesn’t matter. I’ve found one with an absolutely amazing bottle, and a scent to match it......

  • New Haarlem - Coffee, anyone?

Feet hit the floor, down the stairs, into the kitchen, dog out, dog in, coffee – aaahhhh. The day has begun.

  • Piper Nigrum - Over-looked and under-rated

I had to make some decant samples last week, one of which was Piper Nigrum by Lorenzo Villoresi. This is one of the first niche scents I owned, a gift from a friend after a trip to Florence. I’d told her she should visit the LV shop in Via de' Bardi in Florence,  a 15th century palazzo owned by his family, and have a perfume created for her, which she did.

  • Sniffing Around Sample Pack

In the web perfume universe, there are a lot of blogs, and some sites which sell samples, but perfumeniche.com is unique because we do both.

  • Comme des Garçons Eau de Parfum Original - Yes, it is

The first time Kay and I went to the Comme des Garçons store in Chelsea, New York, we were on a mission. Kay wanted LUXE Patchouli and I was riding sidecar – which meant I was navigating. I kinda knew where we were going and after breakfast at the Empire Diner, we set off. After a lot of “Is that it? Doesn’t look like it?” “Well, that’s the address they gave me…” we got there. Why the confusion?

  • Un Parfum des Sens et Bois – Something different

Jean-Claude Ellena is a titan in the modern perfume world. He was born in 1947 in Grasse – destiny perhaps? He’s had a hand in the development of over 50 fragrances for such houses as Van Cleef & Arpels, Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle and L’Artisan. In 2004 he became the exclusive in-house perfumer for Hermès, where by the end of 2008, perfume sales tripled. Pretty impressive, I’d say.

  • Iris de Nuit - Beauty with brains

I love my garden. I love pruning, weeding, diggin’ around. I just moved a small bed of perennials to a better spot, and my hands have that fragrant dark rooty smell that only comes from iris root.

  • Wonderwood – If you go down to the woods today......(August 4, 2010 New Fragrance Listing)

Comme des Garçons fragrances are never dull. Maybe it’s because they come from a design house, maybe it’s because they comes from an edgy design house, but I find their fragrances always interesting and many of them FBW.
