The excitement around the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William is starting to take on a life of its own. I expected to see the media drumming it up and die-hard anglophiles getting caught up in it, but over the past week clients, friends and pals are all talking about it – what a great couple they make, what a great love story, who’s designing the wedding dress, etc.

It’s March – yesterday it rained and today it snowed. I’m fed up. I mean, I love winter but I am tired of it. It’s not that I crave warmer weather, it’s that I crave a change. I’m ready to move on to spring. Ahh spring! Narcissi shoots pushing their way up through the earth, stronger longer daylight, wet ground, not frozen ground. It’s coming, it’s coming…just not today. [Insert expletive here.] There is some relief though. Odalisque from Parfums de Nicolaï.

Last week I bought Portrait of a Lady by Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle. Yep, I just strode into Holt’s and bought a bottle. That’s right - Portrait of a Lady is now available in Toronto. Hallelujah!

This wasn’t a blind buy though, I had tried this EDP at the Malle store in New York in November and found it FBW and since I knew it would surface in Toronto, I focused on buying frags that I could only get over the wall.

Every time Kay or I snag a great frag buy, we get together to sniff and share. “Where’d you get this? How much was it? Did they have anymore?” are always part of the conversation. Then we settle in, pop the cap, spritz and breathe. Then it starts: “What do you get off the top?” “Oh, this is different….” Or “I’ve waited my whole life to smell this… Then we go through the middle notes and wait for the drydown.
