My favourite part of the holiday season are the other eleven days of Christmas. All the work – wrapping, decorating, preparing – is done. All the anticipation and expectation have subsided. It’s quiet and peaceful and there’s time to really enjoy friends and family and really look at all the gifts – from the wallet and from the heart – that Santa brought.

I am a rose hound. It is always my inclination to reach for the roses first whenever I’m presented with an array of frags. More than once Kay and I have been scent shopping and she has seen my eyes blink and my hand shake as I reach for a bottle. “It’s the rose thing again, isn’t it?” she asks. Easy for her to say, she doesn’t have a rose-monkey on her back.

Tis the season….figgy puddings, five golden rings, gold frankincense and myrrh ….so this seems like the perfect time to talk about La Myrrhe by Serge Lutens. Well, really, anytime is the perfect time to talk about La Myrrhe cause it’s just that kind of frag, but most people’s first encounter with myrrh is as one of the gifts of the Three Wise Men, but in fact it goes waaaaay back.
