Monacle Scent One: Hinoki - Rub-a-dub-dub!

Monocle magazine is one of my fave reads. The magazine does a great job of keeping readers up to date on travel, design and trends in pop culture. Wanna know about a luxury hotel near Les Houches? Where does Parisian baker Jean-Luc Poujaran take his morning coffee? How about those Delvaux newspaper bags? I devour each issue….slowly. The content, the marketing, the brand are just genius.

Ninfeo Mio – An Italian garden (June 9, 2010 New Fragrance Listing)

Fou d’Absinthe - Who you calling a fairy?

Le Temps d'Une Fête - Garden in a bottle – May 31, 2010 New Fragrance Listing.

Green is my favourite colour – always has been. Any shade, any tint. Given a choice, unconsciously, I keep going for the green - in clothes, in decor, in art and in scent. Especially in scent.

Fille en Aiguilles - Just smells good! - May 26, 2010 New Fragrance Listing

One of the reasons I am drawn to niche perfumes is that smaller perfume houses, perfumers and indie brands don’t have to bow to the tastes of the mass market. They are free to take chances, to explore. It’s interesting to see what happens when a perfumer can use their talent, knowledge, skill, experience and any ingredients they like to make something they want to make - something truly unique.

Dans tes Bras - In your arms

Al Oudh - Midnight at the oasis

Eau de Claudie – Only in Paris - May 12, 2010

Pomegranate Noir – What are you wearing?

I was sitting in a restaurant lounge with a group of friends, having a drink and catching up, when a stranger came up from behind me and whispered in my ear "Pomegranate Noir". Wow! What a conversation stopper that was! Heads at the table whipped round to face me and all eyes were locked on mine. I’m not sure, but I think I heard a leaf fall somewhere, the moment was that vivid for me. “What did she say?” everyone wanted to know. So I told them. They looked at me like I’d been chewing on tonka beans.

Fougère Bengale - Tiger, tiger, burning bright....

It’s that transitional time of year when I know warmer weather is coming, I just don’t know when. I nudge nature a long a bit by taking the cover off the BBQ and putting the Muskoka chairs out on the deck. Looking good. Gotta get those hanging flower baskets hung. Need to fish my sunglasses out of the purse I was using last summer…. OK, now I’m ready for the warm weather. Anytime now. Waiting. Still waiting. Where is the heat?
