Winter Nights – woody and aromatic and warm

It’s not yet the Ides of March, more like the Ides of Winter. Baby, it’s cold outside. It’s too cold even to walk the dog!  Cabin fever takes on real meaning, and I seek out remedies to ease anxiety and soothe the senses. Books, music, cozy sweaters and throws, hot tea…and meditative scents.  This winter I’ve found the balm for my soul, an extraordinary scent experience aptly named Winter Nights.

La Fumée Arabie – spicy and woody and smoky

One of my favorite smoky scents is La Fumée by British indie perfume house Miller Harris. I’ve worn it on and off since I first discovered it in 2011 and, dare I say, it is as close to a signature scent for me as I dare to go.

I was very sad to learn that Vero Kern, the brilliant Swiss perfumer who became a perfumer later in her life, passed away suddenly on December 18, 2018.

Bertrand Duchaufour - remember him? Sure you do. A few years back this über - talented nose seemed to be was everywhere, all the time, and we couldn’t get enough of his swoon worthy fragrances. And, then around 2015 we started to see less from him, especially after he left his positon as Perfumer in Residence at L’Artisan.
