Black No.1 by House of Matriarch, houseofmatriarch.biz

The little bottle in its small black package has been on my shelf for way too long so it’s time to move it on to the table and talk about it.

My wonderful Standard poodle was, as most dogs are, an obsessive sniffer. Perhaps because he grew up in a house filled with bottles of perfume and a garden filled with blooming plants, he especially liked fragrant vegetal scents, in addition to all the usual whiffy canine temptations.

Épine Mortelle – complex and intriguing and beautiful - January 14, 2018

Red Rose by Andrele Bohner, Nov. 18, 2007 - Wikimedia Commons

“So, what do you think” I asked the sales assistant.

She wafted the blotter back and forth under her nose a few times before answering.

“This one is a challenge,” she said finally.

“How so?” I asked.

If you haven’t yet discovered Hiram Green’s natural perfumes, it’s time to step up and experience something wonderful. But let me set the scene first.

"Twas the night before Christmas" - Niche style

In 2011, Gwen and I had a lot of fun writing our version of the beloved Christmas poem by Clement Moore, Twas the Night Before Christmas.  This seasonal classic is a favourite of ours, one which we read every Christmas Eve without fail to our children when they were young, following the tradtion set by our own parents. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we had fun writing it!

Ten Faves from 2017 - December 11, 2017

Christmas card collage - julekort

We’ve sniffed, spritzed, splashed, dabbed, read about, dreamed about, longed for, searched for, paid for, and written about a lot of fragrances, and now 2017 is coming to an end. Our fascination with beautiful smells is as passionate as when we began writing about them in 2010.
