Citrus notes have been used for centuries and were the basis of many of 19th C. colognes, simple compositions based on lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit or mandarin. Citrus notes are short-lived and are therefore used as opening or top-notes in modern fragrances. They can be paired with other aromatic and tart notes for men and floral notes for women, mixed with herbs, amber, woods - they give a bright sunny feeling to perfumes.
There are two Citrus groups - Aromatic, and Gourmond
