Patchouli Impérial

Posted in
$5.00

Launched in 2011 as part of Dior’s prestigious La Collection Privée line, Patchouli Impérial is that rare thing – a refined elegant patchouli scent.

Patchouli is a fickle note. On some skin it just doesn’t last or it lasts too long or just doesn’t work. Then there are the ‘hippie’ associations that put some people off. I totally get that, but I’m totally over it. The patchouli in Patchouli Impérial isn’t wrangled so much as it is polished.

Eau Sauvage

$5.00

Eau Sauvage by Dior is one of the all-time greatest men’s fragrances ever, a citrus-herbal-wood perfection created by the modern master perfumer Edmund Roudnitska in 1966.

Eau Sauvage was the first real gift I gave my husband. When we met, he didn’t wear cologne at all, it just wasn’t on his radar, but Eau Sauvage changed all that.

Escale à Portofino

Posted in
$5.00

Escale à Portofino is part of Les Escales de Dior - the fragrance collection that was based on Dior’s Couture Cruise Collection. Inspired by the idea of casual cruise travel, François Demachy, Dior’s in-house perfumer, created a series of fragrances based on specific ports of call or ‘escales’. Launched in 2008, Escale à Portofino – named for that gem of a resort town on the Italian Riveria -  was the first frag in the series and to date, is my favourite. It is the essence of summer in Italy.

Dioressence

Posted in
$5.00

Launched in 1979 Dioressence was a masterwork by Guy Robert. From the first time I smelled Dioressence, I knew resistance would be futile – I loved it.
Over the years it has been reformulated many times, and the current version is, for me, still so FBW.

Diorella

$5.00

Diorella is a chypre, and it opens with a tart lemon-zesty blast, sweet but cool at the same time, and then Diorella becomes more green and juicy from the melon and peach, like cool, thirst-quenching, fresh-pressed juice in a frosty glass.

Hypnotic Poison

$5.00

Created by Annick Ménardo, who did the great Bulgari Black, Hypnotic Poison is a lush woody Oriental with unique top notes of almond, coconut and plum. The almond cuts the sweetness of the plum, and the plum blends with rose and the woody base notes, and the end result is a richly deep, dark scent that you can get lost in. I love wearing it to bed.

Launched in 1998, it comes in a distinctive deep red colour rounded bottle with a small black cap that fits in the palm of your hand – like a little ripe fruit!
