Serge Lutens

Le Participe Passé

$8.00

Over the past few years Serge Lutens explored new creative territory, seguing from his dense lush Oriental “Lutensian” style found in Ambre Sultan, Santal Majuscule, Arabie, Cuir Mauresque, Feminite du Bois, for example, into more abstract, focused, simplistic fragrances which were interesting to me more because of their difference from his signature style, rather because they smelled spectacular.

La Vierge De Fer

$6.00

Launched in 2013 by Serge Lutens, La Vierge De Fer affected me in a deep and compelling way the first time I smelled it and I was reminded of a Lutens quote: “A perfume belongs to our heart as well as our skin”. The simple, uncomplicated beauty of this fragrance has taken up residence in my heart.

Boxeuses

Posted in
$7.00

Launched in 2010 by Serge Lutens, Boxeuses translates as ‘women boxers’ and plays off the scented leather gloves of Catherine de Medici who had her gloves perfumed to mask the harsh smell of the leather.  Boxeuses is a modern perfume in a world where baseball gloves, hockey gloves and boxing gloves are more likely to be worn than opera gloves. Boxeuses isn’t about perfuming leather, it’s all about a leather perfume.

Féminité du Bois

$5.00

Féminité du Bois is considered a game-changer in the perfume world. Launched originally in 1992 for Shiseido, the re-formulated 2000 version from Serge Lutens is, according to Serge himself, very true to the original.

This rich Oriental fragrance introduced woody notes that were traditionally confined to masculines, featured them as star players, and opened the creative gates into a whole new world feminine perfumery.

L'Orpheline

$6.00

Opening with a sharp burst of cool, I think at first that this is a citrus accord but it’s a fountain of crystal aldehydes, similar to Luten’s opening in L’Eau Froide but not nearly so cold or clinically clean.  After the first minutes, I smell the incense pushing aside the cool notes, backed up with lovely resinous woods and salty musk, so that L’Orpheline becomes warmer, and a little peppery. Spicy even, quietly spicy with a little clean dirt thrown in the mix, and I can’t name the spice.

Gris Clair...

$6.00

Gris Clair..., a 2006 release by Serge Lutens is cool and calming, and gorgeous.

Similar to Encens et Lavande, but more subdued, Lutens says in his website description of Gris Clair...that to " add grey to clarity, I added incense. In every sense, incense makes sense to my sense".

So Gris Clair... is about incense, a very Zen-like non-churchy incense that floats on the faintest lavender and grey iris, then cozies up with amber and tonka, dry wood and frankincense. Undemanding airy softness, a hint of smoke...ommm.

Santal Majuscule

$5.00

Launched in 2012 by Parfums-Beaute Serge Lutens, Santal Majuscule is the third Lutens’ fragrance to showcase sandalwood, after Santal Blanc and Santal de Mysore. “Majuscule’ means ‘capital’ and the Lutens website describes Santal Majuscule as “Sandalwood written in capital letters, full scale and life sized!”

La Fille de Berlin

$4.00

Launched in 2013, La Fille de Berlin by Serge Lutens is a gorgeous rose scent that I can’t get enough of. I smelled it and had to have a bottle right away. Oh, buying this ruby red juice was such a smart move, even if I do say so myself. Every time I get a whiff of it on my arm, I fall more deeply in love with it and anytime someone else gets a whiff of it they want a bottle of it too.
