Inspired by the childhood of the geranium–scented soap in her parents bathroom, Patricia de Nicolaï has taken green, sharp, earthy geranium and refined it so that it becomes the essence of chic.

Mme. de Nicolaï chose Bourbon geranium as the centerpiece for the scent. This variety has a minty aspect that is boosted at the opening with spearmint and peppermint. Cool, so very cool. It also plays nicely with aromatic lavender which tames the intensity of the geranium without diminishing it.

The geranium stays at the core of the scent where fragrant sandalwood gives it a soft woody note, sweet Roman chamomile adds a slight fruitiness and iris rounds it out with a floral note. But it’s not finished yet. Clove comes forward giving it a spiciness that is warmed by pimiento. White musk at the base gives it an animalic dimension that stabilizes it all. Quite simply: L'eau Chic is the ‘ooh’ in ooh-la-la!

This is not the heavy earthy, dirty smell of geranium leaf and root that one might expect. This is a new kind of geranium to love. De Nicolaï’s treatment of geranium doesn’t diminish its character; it refines it so that it becomes elegant, stylish and well, chic. I have been wearing L'eau Chic since I bought it and I think I’ll keep wearing it because it smells so good and besides, does ‘chic’ really have a season?
