New in niche

One of Canada’s most talented perfumers has collaborated with a Montreal ecoluxe brand to launch a new fragrance: Isabelle Michaud of Monsillage  has collaborated with Harricana par Mariouche in creating the brand’s first perfume. The official launch is December 4 in Montreal. Harricana par Mariouche is a leader in eco-fashion, recycling materials such as fur, suede, leather and silk and remodeling them into new creations. Designer Mariouche Gagné’s style is described as “edgy, ethical and extraordinary”  —can’t wait to see and sniff what Gagné and Michaud have come up with!

Vintage appeal

Okay, speaking of really, really vintage: I’ve just picked up A Scented Palace: The Secret History of Marie Antoinette’s Perfumer by Elisabeth de Feydeau. (The book’s not that old, but the perfumer in question is long-dead!) Can’t wait to get into it—and I’m once again irritated with myself for not paying enough attention in French class all of those years ago, because de Feydeau also has a well-regarded blog and a number of other well-reviewed books on fragrance—all in French. Merde!

Deals, deals, deals

If you’re in North America, it’s that time of year when it’s worth hitting your discount retailers to check out the perfume and perfume gift sets on sale. Here in Canada, L’Artisan body lotions, creams and oils have shown up at Winners along with L’Artisan candles (apparently there’s a packaging update in the works), and in the US Happ & Stahns award-winning Lily Sanguine was spotted at Marshalls. My policy: one gift for someone on my list, one gift for me…

Makes me want to try it

“Perky Paris Iris”? I’m in. That’s how Denyse Beaulieu of Grain de Musc describes Francis Kurkdjian’s Amyris Femme. It was already on my list of must-sniffs (I have and adore his Absolue pour le Soir), but Denyse’s delightful post has me lemming it even more.
