New in niche

The New York Times has declared that rose is the new unisex--so of course it must be true. Of course, there are those among us who have long thought that rose can be worn by anyone of any gender. Among the new releases cited as demonstrating this trend: Rose by Roja Dove, Opus X from Amouage, A la rose from Maison FrancisKurkdjian, Bitter Rose, Broken Spear from Hylnds, Tobacco Rose from Papillon Artisan Perfumes, and more.

Nosing around

Guerlain’s Thierry Wasser: “I drink champagne! It’s a wonderful diet!” One more reason to admire him.

Deals, deals, deals

I’ve always thought that one rose that would make a great men’s frag is Cabaret—its patchouli, incense, amber, sandalwood and musk give it a depth that I think works on any gender. And the good news is that it is super-affordable—most online sites have it for under $30. Want to give it a sniff? Gwen and Kay have Cabaret decants on offer.

Makes me want to try it

Vintage appeal

One of the scents on the Now Smell This list is Tocade—but it’s worth noting that it’s the pre-2013 reformulation they’re talking about, the original Tocade created by Maurice Roucel. You can still find it on some online perfume sites—look for the bottle with the long neck and triangular hat. It’s a beauty!  And you can get a decant from Gwen and Kay by clicking here!
