New in niche

I mentioned the new ‘fumes from Robert Piguet —the house behind the classics Fracas and Bandit—last March, when Carol at What A Fragrance Fanatic Thinks first posted about their upcoming launch. Now, the folks at have reviewed the five new scents, and I have to say, Notes and Casbah both have me intrigued (okay, so do Oud and Bois Noir and Mademoiselle Piguet, but Notes and Casbah really have me intrigued). Mark Behnke describes Notes as an exhilarating, completely modern fougere with top notes of orange flower, clary sage and geranium, followed by oak moss, tonka and vetiver. He describes Casbah this way: “Black pepper, nutmeg and, the botanical source of musk, Angelica root create a heady spicy slightly animalic opening. Then M. Guichard packs the hookah with the slightly narcotic tobacco leaves before adding an awesome iris to go along with it.” Yup, I’m interested!

Vintage appeal

One of my favourite blogs on vintage scents is Yesterday’s Perfume. Now it turns out that blogger Barbara Herman, the author of the site, will soon be a book author as well. Her book Scent and Subversion: A Century of Provocative Perfume will by published by Lyons Press in 2013 and will include reviews of 300 vintage scents. I can’t wait to read it, and I’m sure it will become a must-have reference for vintage perfume hounds!

Deals, deals, deals

Want to check out one of Piguet’s classic scents, Fracas? has it on for a few dollars off the regular price but with just five bottles available as I write this post.

Nosing around

The nose behind the new Piguet frags is Aurélien Guichard, whose grandparents grew roses and jasmine for the perfume trade and whose father is perfumer Jean Guichard. Aurélien is the nose behind such scents as Bond No. 9 Chinatown (a fave of mine), Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory (one I covet), Gucci Guilty and dozens of others—see a full list on Now Smell This. Gwen and Margot have Chinatown and Silver Factory both on offer.

Makes me want to try it

I love a review that makes me want to jump out and head out the door RIGHT NOW to try a perfume, and Victoria at often has that effect on me. The latest to prompt that reaction? Her review of Estee Lauder’s Azurée. Take a look and I think you’ll be heading out the door as well!

Just because

Sometimes it’s just fun to watch the ads, and if you want to while away a few minutes watching perfume ads, check out the Brain Candy section of, where you’ll find a bunch o’ video ads to inspire your purchases!
