Fou D'Absinthe

absinthe

Those 19th century Parisian bohemians were crazy for absinthe, the green liquor reputed to induce hallucinations. I can understand why - it is a refreshing aniseed flavoured drink made from the leaves and flowers of grande wormwood.

But spirits don't make good fragrances - believe me, dabbing gin behind your ears is a waste of gin. But they can inspire fab scents.

Fou d'Absinthe is a great example of this. This EDP opens with the anise and bitterness of grande wormwood, followed by warm spiciness from ginger, nutmeg and clove. The drydown is quite piney. Perfectly balanced, this scent is, well, intoxicating.

Fou d'Absinthe is labelled 'masculine', but I love wearing it. But, then I find the whole male/female division in scent a guideline rather than a directive. I’m a grown up – I know what I like, and I love Fou d’Absinthe.
