Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue – intense and rich and luxurious

I was sitting around enjoying the warmth of a late spring evening over a cool glass of rosé, and reading the current issue People magazine, when an article called “Hot New Scents” caught my eye. There was a picture of Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue by Prada alongside Selena Gomez EDP and Dreams Unlimited by the Body Shop. Really? My wine nearly came out of my nose.
I believe in spreading the word and sharing the love of great scents and I don’t want to slag other fragrances, but this stunner deserves better than being crowded on a page with other summer scents, so let’s give it to her.
Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue comes from the house of Prada, the Italian fashion label founded in 1913 by Mario Prada in Milan. The gold-toned stopper on the bottle is textured to resemble a spool of thread which is a nod the provenance of the brand.
It opens with a zing of bitter neroli softened with sweetness from orange blossom. While the top notes linger powdery, dry iris shows up, its cool nobility beautifully playing off the warmth of the orange blossom. Iris is a powerful note. Writer Annabel Rivkin says “Iris is woman squared in fragrance form” and it certainly has presence here. It’s not aggressive or bold, but intense, rich and luxurious. At the base, resinous benzoin gives it a medicinal, almost balsamy, note which adds depth. Tonka bean adds a spicy/vanilla dimension that complements the sweetness of vanilla, while white musk gives it an animalic dimension.
Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue is a variation on Infusion d’Iris, which was launched in 2007. Revisiting her original work, perfumer Daniela Andrier brings out its the darker, denser features, making the Absolue cool, rooty, balsamy, slightly sweet and arousing. It gets romantic real fast which is probably why it’s getting traction in a mass market magazine.
But it’s such a stand out that it really deserves it’s own page.
