Bois d'Ascèse

Posted in

Launched by Naomi Goodsir Parfums is 2012, Bois d’Ascèse is a soliflore of smoke and the smell of smoke is present throughout the development of the entire fragrance.

It opens with a note of citrus that quickly gives way to incense deepened by a note of wood smoke from smoked cade – a species of juniper that has a sharp cedar smell. It is clean and clear until it blooms when the smokiness becomes more complex with the addition of tobacco and boozy whiskey, all of it warmed by spicy cinnamon and softly sweetened by amber. Oakmoss at the base gives it a sensual woodiness.

Bois d’Ascèse showcases all the facets of smoke - incensey, dry, woody, medicinal - with a drydown that is elegant and refined. I love smelling this on a man, but I love smelling it on me more.

The Naomi Goodsir Parfums website describes Bois d’Ascèse as a secluded CHAPEL, BLAZING dusk, moment of GRACE, DIVINE smoke, silent CANTIQUE. I describe it as a full, rich, addictive olfactory experience that makes me feel good on the inside while smelling good on the outside.

Notes: citrus, incense, tobacco, whisky, cinnamon, amber, cistus labdanum, smoked cade wood, Somalian incense, oakmoss.
