"Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden"

Kay:     Bad news… Esther has the flu! So no “Sniffing out news” post today.

Gwen:  Oh no… I love her posts with all the latest news and best deals, and I know our readers do, too.

Kay:     Poor Esther. I hope she’s better soon. What can we do to replace her post?

Gwen:  Well, we can’t do what Esther does nearly as well as she does it…

Kay:     Of course not… no matter how hard we try.

Gwen:  You know, our readers do love our contests…

Kay:     Good idea. We don’t want to have our readers make a trip to the Niche and leave empty-minded, I mean handed! What kind of contest?

Gwen:  Well, I’ve been reading Shakespeare’s The Winter's Tale and there’s a passage in Act IV, Scene IV, that lists various flowers and plants that are actually used as notes in perfumes…here, I’ll read it to you:

“Here's flowers for you;
Hot lavender, mints, savoury, marjoram;
The marigold, that goes to bed wi' the sun
And with him rises weeping: these are flowers
Of middle summer…”

So the contest is for readers to find 4 scents in our Decant Store which contain ANY OF THOSE FIVE NOTES listed in this Winter’s Tale passage, and e-mail their answers through our website by midnight February 4th. Then we’ll have a random draw for the winner.

Kay:     They can find ANY of the notes, they don’t have to find all of the notes in one fragrance? ….. like, they could find 4 frags with lavender, or 2 with lavender and 1 with mint and I with marigold?

Gwen:  Yeh, that’s it exactly. And the prize will be a Decant Pack of the 4 fragrances they list in their answer.

Kay:     Not bad! Easy, quick, and fun!

Gwen:  The only thing is the frags must be listed in in our Decant Store.

Kay:     Say, what are you doing reading Shakespeare anyway?

Gwen:  Well, it started when I was looking for a recipe for oxtail soup online...

Kay:      I think I need another glass of wine….

Here’s the passage from The Winter's Tale (4.4.122-7) again...

"Here's flowers for you;
Hot lavender, mints, savoury, marjoram;
The marigold, that goes to bed wi' the sun
And with him rises weeping: these are flowers
Of middle summer, and I think they are given
To men of middle age."

Good luck everyone! Remember to e-mail your answers by midnight February 4th, 2015. The winner will be announced on Friday, February 6th.
