Le Muguet de Rosine 2015

Le Muguet de Rosine 2015 is a special edition fragrance in honour of May 1st, La Fête du Muguet – the day when people give bouquets of lily of the valley flowers to friends and family as a token of affection. It’s a tradition that started in 1561 when King Charles IX of France was given lily of the valley flowers on May 1. He liked the gift, and so each year on the first day of May, he presented lily of the valley flowers to the ladies of his court.

This is a reincarnation of a discontinued fragrance of the same name that was launched some years ago. The 2015 edition, is fruitier and less floral than the original. It is gorgeous and a few minutes later, it was mine.

Le Muguet de Rosine 2015 opens with citrusy, bitter bergamot gently sweetened by a note of pear. The fruity pear is tinged with green that extends the bergamot to a gentle note of bright lily of the valley at the heart. For a moment I am back at the produce stand on rue Montorgueil on May 1st.  The lily of the valley is joined by a note of lush, romantic rose. On me the rose takes over at times, and I don’t mind one little bit. Then sweet, indolic jasmine comes forward, picking up on the nuances of jasmine in the lily of the valley. White musk at the base is clean, smooth and slightly sweet – the perfect anchor for this spring scent.

The drydown is elegant and refined with the lily of the valley is soft not screeching. Le Muguet de Rosine 2015 has a lightness to it, like something you would catch in the spring air. The lily of the valley signifies the return of happiness and that’s what Le Muguet de Rosine 2015 smells like - happiness.
