Nose-to-nose: Sniffing out news with Esther, February 17, 2016

New in niche
I’m sure there’s still wallop left in winter, but we’re getting a hint o’ spring in my neck of the world—12 degrees Celsius today.  And so I was in a spring-like mood when I read that Amouage has launched a new lilac fragrance called Lilac Love. Lilac gets tagged with the “old lady” accusation--which I hate for so many reasons, not the least of which being that the old ladies in my life smell great, and I hope to be a great-smelling old lady myself someday. And with notes that include jasmine, rose, lilac, gardenia, peony, orris, cocoa bean, tonka bean, patchouli and vanilla, the lilac sounds like it has plenty to offer. I’ll be searching it out.
Interested in other Amouage scents? Gwen and Kay have Sunshine Woman, Beloved Woman, Fate Man, Jubilation XXV and Amouage Gold for Women.
Vintage appeal
After stumbling on this post about vintage Coty White Lilac, I’ve had to add it to my “hope I find it someday” list.
Nosing around
Since I’m on a lilac kick here, one of my favourite lilac fragrances is En Passant from Frederic Malle, created by nose Olivia Giacobetti. Check out this recent interview with her in Elle’s French edition (the Google translation of it isn’t half bad if your French is rusty).
And of course, Gwen and Kay have plenty of Giacobetti’s creations on offer, including En Passant, Andrée Putnam L’Original, L’Artisan Tea for Two, L’Arbre de IUNX, L’Artisan Jour de Fetes and many others. Enter “Giacobetti” in the search box to your left for a full list!
Deals, deals, deals
Looking for a cheap and cheerful lilac? has Demeter’s Lilac Cologne on offer for about $30Cdn for 120 ml.
Makes me want to try it
While we’re on the subject of pretending it’s not winter, check out this post by Elisa on Bois de Jasmin on “winter-cheating fragrances.”  I keep seeing one on her list—Lolita Lempicka l’Eau Blanc—on sale at my local drugstore, so maybe I’ll have to pick it up!
Just because
So while I’m certain this spring break-in-the-weather won’t last forever, I’m enjoying it while I can. And Elvis is too.
