Une Rose Chyprée

Posted in

Andy Tauer says on his website that “Une Rose Chyprée is a modern vintage perfume. It reaches back to the craft of traditional high perfumery, using a luxurious setting of raw materials. I wanted it to be a rose of today that speaks our language.”
It’s the first fragrance in his Homages line, highly concentrated perfumes which Andy refers to as fragrant sculptures, luxurious and rich, prepared in small batches, bottled and packaged by his own hands -

At its launch, Andy said that each 15 ml bottle of the Eau de Parfum contains one pound of steam-distilled rose petals as well as rosa damascena absolute.

Rose is the star and radiates from start to finish, but the opening notes are a powerhouse of bright sparkling citrus, layered on top of cinnamon rose and herbal bay laurel. Mmm, mmm, good! I feel like I want to take a bite of this luscious juice!
The next sensuous wave is geranium, vetiver and oak moss - dense, earthy, green - the thorny dark underside of the seductive rose, almost like musty incense inside a cold cathedral. Into the drydown, labdanum sweetens the mix, but then the this sweetness recedes into a buttery, velvety-smooth rich finish with patchouli and a touch of vanilla.
Une Rose Chyprée isn’t a bright fruity girly rose, or a powdery fussy “grandma” rose, it’s an elegant beautiful gilt-edged sophisticated rose – with a verrry interesting past.

Notes: Rosa damascena absolute and essential oil, bay, cinnamon, bergamot, lemon, Clementine, Bourbon geranium, labdanum, oak moss, patchouli, vetiver, vanilla.
