Chypre is French for the island of Cyprus. This fragrance family is named for François Coty's iconic perfume Chypre, created in 1917. The fragrance's name is a nod to the aromatic materials it contained, most of which came from Mediterranean countries. Chypres are constructed around a mossy, woody accord composed of bergamot, labdanum, oakmoss, and patchouli.
