2nd Cumming – rich and seductive and manly

I am an Alan Cumming fan and I’m not afraid to say it. Over the years, I’ve seen him in films, on TV and on stage and I’ve read his books. He comes across as cheeky, charming, free-spirited and an immensely talented.

When I learned that Christopher Brosius, of CB I Hate Perfume fame, was bringing the perfume he created for Cummings’ (called Cumming The Fragrance) into his line, well, it made my day. The fragrance is now called 2nd Cumming.

The CB I Hate Perfume website says: “2nd Cumming is exactly the same scent as the original Cumming the Fragrance but in my own unique format. Our “anti-celebrity” scent casts a new look at the classic world of men’s fragrance bringing you a scent that is all about Sex, Scotch, Cigars and Scotland. Alan is Smart, Witty, Amusing, Versatile, and very Sexy – exactly like his scent. He also happens to be Scottish…”  Mr. Brosius, you had me at sex…

2nd Cumming opens softly with citrusy bergamot warmed by black pepper. It smells of warm skin. A light note of Scotch pine wafts up – it doesn’t smell of the forest but of someone who has walked through one. Then slowly, because this frag is a seducer and takes its time to develop, the other notes appear: a caramel, salty, woody note of scotch whiskey, the smell of cigar, floral, musky heather and camphorous Douglas fir – they are all here, anchoring the fragrance in Scotland and giving it a rich, heady depth. A whiff of rubber surprises me, even though I know anything to do with Alan Cumming shouldn’t be a surprise. I smell soft, worn leather and a deep, full earthiness tempered with a note of smoke so beautiful I crave great big lungfuls of it.

But 2nd Cumming isn’t about identifying different notes, it’s about experiencing them so that the drydown is warm, animalic, clean and dirty at the same time. It is the smell of intimacy and I love it!

Interestingly, Brosius says: "The fragrance is warm and changeable reflecting many moods and feelings. And I designed it so the more you sweat, the better it smells…”
