Classic Opoponax was created by Camille Henfling-Von Eusersdorff in 2015 for Von Eusersdorff, his Netherlands-based indie house with headquarters in New York.

As a direct heir to the Von Eusersdorff lineage, he wanted to honour his family of German merchants and global spice traders who operated a vast network sourcing rare botanicals, flower petals, gums, and essential oils. They ran traditional apothecaries, specializing in the raw components sold onward to power the early European perfume industry.

On my skin, it opens with warm, dark resins, sweetened with amber that threads through the fragrance. As it warms on the skin, lush rose and indolic jasmine bloom, adding a gorgeous floral aspect that never dominates but pulses through the resins. At its heart, the star note fuses with benzoin resin and soft sandalwood, steering the composition into an incredibly velvety, milky, and balsamic core. As it moves to the base, the opoponax seems to glow as the fragrance deepens with pungent animalic castoreum, darkened by sweet, woody patchouli, made creamy, powdery, and smooth by vanilla. The drydown is plush, deep, rich, warm and sweet. It has a quiet opulence like no other fragrance I know.
