Fragrance family: Amber Floral
Gender: For women and men

Perfumer: Marie Salamagne

Created by Marie Salamagne for L'Artisan Parfumeur and launched in 2017, this stunning, summer fragrance is centred on the bigarade, or bitter orange, tree valued in perfumery for the different materials it yields: neroli oil, orange blossom absolute, orange flower water and petitgrain.

The fragrance was inspired by a trip Salamagne took to the Souss Valley in southern Morocco, according to The L’Artisan website: 'My memory of the sunset on Taroudant walls remains untouched. Suddenly, the valley takes on exceptional shades, a warm light intensifies the colours of the raw land and the atmosphere gets fresher. Each time I think of this majestic landscape, I think of orange tree flower water. A delicate and delicious water, ultra-refreshing and incredibly luminous.' I fall in love with it every summer.

On me, it opens with an effervescent note of bright, citrusy neroli. Slightly bitter and green, it’s a refreshing start. It’s joined by a note of delicately floral white tea, its sparkling citrus nature, and light herbal facets bolster the neroli. It has a sea-breeze quality that gives the opening and airiness, allowing a note of rich, golden-honeyed, orange blossom to come forward. It smells green, and I think of petitgrain, but it’s not. Petitgrain comes from the bitter orange tree, too, and the scent profiles of neroli and orange blossom overlap to create the impression of green petitgrain.

The white floral heart is warmed by musk, making it intimate and sensual without being animalic. It smells of clean skin. It rests on a base of Ambroxin that evokes the smell of sun-warmed skin and stone. It’s linked to a note of Tonka bean. Its vanilla facet adds a sweet coziness, its spicy aspect adds warmth, and its hay-like feature conjures dried grass.

The drydown is warm, airy and sensual.

Notes:  Neroli, white tea, orange blossom, musk, Ambroxan and Tonka bean.
