Vanilla Edesia

Vanilla Edesia
Created in 2023 by Cécile Zarokian for London-based artisan brand Electimuss, this is an exceptional fragrance.
It was named after Edesia, the goddess of abundance, excess and feasting, associated with the extravagant banquets of the Roman nobility. She inspired creativity and luxury to ensure each experience was rich, well-rounded, and satisfying.
It opens with a note of bright, nose-tinging bergamot, tempered with sweet, juicy mandarin. A note of bitter almond joins the citrus fruits. It’s a note with a sweet, creamy quality that smells like marzipan, balanced by a hint of sharp bitterness that reads as medicinal on my skin. Heliotrope powdery and vanilla-faceted, extends the sweetness of the almond until it is joined by a note of warm, bright rose-tinged pink pepper. Frankincense, woody, sweet, warm, balsamic and smoky, adds complexity, depth and richness to the fragrance. Body heat brings on the spices; cinnamon has a spicy and sweet aroma that’s cozy, warm and sensual. Cumin is warm, spicy and earthy in a way that reads intimate and animalic. Coriander is warm, herbaceous and invigorating. It’s the perfect link to rose centifolia absolute. This rose smells sweet, warm, fruity and green and has a voluptuous, sensual, deep character. A note of woody, balsamic, and earthy Gurjun balsam supports and balances the rose. There’s a headiness here that adds to the opulence of the Vanilla Edesia. Ylang-ylang joins the mix. Its sweet, custardy, floral fruitiness is lush, exotic and luxurious. Creamy milky notes usher in a base of vanilla absolute. This is the richest, most concentrated authentic form of natural vanilla scent used in perfumery. It’s potent, rich, sweet, dense and dark; it clings to skin. Patchouli joins the vanilla – pungent, woody and earthy, it’s sultry and enticing. Cypriol, which is woody and earthy, bolsters the patchouli and adds a leathery quality to the base. Haitian vetiver adds more woodiness and earthiness but has green inflections that add freshness to the base. Woody sandalwood and Virginia cedar, warm, sweet, and resinous amber, along with white musks, blend into a carnal fragrance that completes the fragrance.
Vanilla Edesia dries down to a sophisticated, complex, and rousing scent that is a true exploration of the duality of vanilla: sweet, innocent, and creamy at the start, it becomes rich, dark, and sensual. It smells of abundance, and I am absolutely addicted to it.
