Wonderwood
Wonderwood
Launched in 2010 by the Parisian fashion brand Comme des Garçons and signed by Antoine Lie, Wonderwood showcases wood through a combination of wood, wood notes, and synthetic woods, and the result is captivating.
On me, it starts with a shot of nose-tingling bergamot that introduces a note of fresh, green, woody cypress backed by pungent, spicy black pepper. Against this background, a note of smoky incense slowly unfurls as the pungency of the black pepper relaxes. A hint of nutmeg gently extends the spicy warmth of black pepper to the heart, where cristalon, a synthetic from Givaudan, sets the stage with a rich, fruity, plummy accord that links to a note of cashmeran. Cashmearn, warm, woody and spicy-tinged, gives Wonderwood a comforting sensuality before the woods come forward. I smell smoky, woody, balsamic gaïac wood. Its creamy warmth amps up the sensuality. Cedarwood is here too, warm, woody, and earthy, with a foresty feel. Caraway seeds (carvi graines) have a spicy, warm, and herbaceous aroma that complements the woods. Javanol, a synthetic sandalwood molecule, is creamy and woody, leading to a base of rich, creamy, sensuous sandalwood, patchouli and vetiver, paired for their woody, earthy notes, and luxurious agarwood adds depth and complexity with its intensely woody, resinous, balsamic and slightly sweet nature. Wonderwood is a celebration of wood and all its aspects. Bold at the start, it evolves on skin into a perfectly balanced, luxurious, sophisticated and sensuous scent that is unique and exhilarating.
