Originally created for the French indie line Lubin in 1974 by Lucien Ferrero, it was reformulated by him in 2008 to comply with new health restrictions. The new L de Lubin is virtually indistinguishable from the vintage.

For me, it is the quintessential summer fragrance.

On me, it opens a note of sunny, vibrant Sicilian lemon that smells of the Mediterranean sun. It’s paired with zesty, nose-tingling bergamot to give L de Lubin a bright, fresh start. As the citrus fades, a note of black pepper comes forward. Its spicy facet links to a note of exotic, creamy ylang-ylang, with hints of banana and jasmine, joined by an indolic, lush note of white gardenia, warmed by the black pepper. Close your eyes, inhale slowly, and you will find yourself in a place that’s sunny and warm. Exhale slowly. As it blooms on the skin, a heady note of jasmine extends the white floral opening into the heart, where it’s joined by lush rose. The addition of soft, elegant iris and creamy, green-tinged lily creates the most beautiful tropical summer bouquet, warmed by spicy clove. Tonka bean smells like creamy vanilla and warm spices. It bridges the citrus and the flowers to a woody base of earthy patchouli, fragrant rosewood and creamy sandalwood. Vanilla makes L de Lubin cozy and familiar, while floral, velvety heliotrope blends with the tonka bean, sandalwood, and vanilla to create a rich, warm drydown mellowed by musk. The result is a refined and elegant summer fragrance for women that’s never loud or beachy, but voluptuous and luxurious, fresh and modern, with a retro wink.
