Created by Christian Provenzano and launched in 2012, Glorious, part of their Spirit Collection, was inspired by Boadicea, a Celtic warrior and queen of the Iceni tribe who led a revolt against Roman occupation in 60 AD.

I first smelled Glorious at New London Pharmacy when I last visited New York. Renowned make-up artist and sales assistant extraordinaire Desiree Monroe was wearing it. It’s a gorgeous fragrance that gets noticed.

On me, it opens bright and fresh from piney, citrusy elemi. The freshness is heightened by a note of sparkling, succulent pineapple. Peach is here too, fleshy and full; it gives a gorgeous depth to the tropical pineapple. Ripe plum and juicy raspberry join the mix, their thick jamminess balanced by a touch of crisp apple. As the top notes fade, lush, narcotic jasmine comes forward, its floral aspect amplified by opulent rose, warmed by cardamom and nutmeg. It lies on a woody base of balsamic cedarwood, smoke-tinged guaiac wood, creamy sandalwood and sweet, earthy patchouli. There’s also an elusive camphorous note of balsam that wafts up through the woods that is mesmerizing. Amber and vanilla are sweet, cozy and comforting. A note of musk extends the animalic aspect of the jasmine to the drydown and adds depth and richness.

The drydown is rich and complex yet light and engaging; it never gets too fruity, dark or sweet. And like all fragrances in the Boadicea the Victorious line, it can be worn by men and women.
