Les Nombres d’Or Cuir

Les Nombres d’Or Cuir
Les Nombres d’Or Cuir was launched by French indie line Mona di Orio Paffums in 2010 as part of their Les Nombres d’Or collection.
Each fragrance in this collection is built around a title note; in this case, it’s leather.
On me, it opens with a note of aromatic cardamom that’s spicy and warm. It’s joined by a note of fresh, herbaceous anisic absinthe and resinous, piney juniper. The absinthe and juniper give it a boozy facet. It’s such a lovely opening. The balance between the spicy warmth and cool botanicals creates interest, setting the stage for a note of leather that’s wild, raw and carnal. Cade soon appears. It’s smoky, woody and tarry and gives depth to the leather. It’s often used as a base note, but smelling it at this stage feels like an exciting discovery. Castoreum blends right into the mix with its smoky undertones and forest facets. It’s warm, sensual and animalic and softens the rawness of the leather. Opoponax is resinous, with cozy vanilla and honey aspects that add creaminess and richness to Les Nombres d’Or Cuir.
Les Nombres d’Or Cuir dries down to a sophisticated, chic leather fragrance. But it is much more than that. It’s a complex, layered and textured leather scent where all the supporting notes harmonize around it and transform it from rough and raw to soft and supple. Les Nombres d’Or Cuir is full of contradictions – warm and cool, smoky and green, dark and light, rough and poised, masculine and feminine – that I find irresistible.
Notes: Cardamom, absinthe, juniper, leather, cade, castoreum and opoponax.
