Altamura

Altamura
Created in 2025 by Bertrand Duchaufour for his brand, L'Entropiste Paris, Altamura is named after the ancient Apulian city in southern Italy, known worldwide for its Pane di Altamura, a DOP-protected bread baked in wood-burning ovens. This bread is so popular that it put a local McDonald’s out of business.
Of Altamura, Duchaufour says on L'Entropiste website that ‘I cannot see them, but I feel their endless dance deep within me. The dance of atoms, of stars, of snowflakes, of attic dust. Everything around me moves as if in the brilliance of a cosmic breath, through the intoxicating rhythms of the universe.’
On me, it opens with ozonic and mineralic notes that evoke thoughts of stars, comets, and space rocks. A note of sweet orange, sparkling and bright, is mixed with boozy, potent rum note, which isn’t overly sweet, giving familiarity to the opening. A note of licorice, sweet, and spicy adds warmth. It’s joined by cumin that smells nutty, spicy and with a sweaty/salty animalic facet that offsets the ozonic effect at the opening. A note of myrrh emerges. It’s earthy, resinous, bittersweet, and smoky. It links to frankincense at the base, which seems to billow throughout the fragrance. Vetiver, earthy, smoky and fresh marries with the frankincense as bitter almond and smoked vanilla compete Altamura.
Altamura dries down to a citrus, smoky stunner that is unexpected and memorable, making it so craveable, I want to wear it every day.
Notes: Ozonic, metallic, sweet orange, rum, licorice, cumin, myrrh, frankincense, vetiver, bitter almond and smoked vanilla.
