Promenade des Anglais
Promenade des Anglais
Launched in 2016, Promenade des Anglais is part of Guerlain's Les Parisiennes line and was inspired by the subtle Mediterranean aromas along the Côte d'Azur as experienced on a walk on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice in summer.
This is the experience Thierry Wasser wanted to capture in Promenade des Anglais, and, for me, after smelling it and wearing it, he did just that.
It opens fresh, gently tart, and tangy, with notes of grapefruit and bergamot. Right off the top, it’s elegant and aromatic, not bold or bracing. It’s also surprisingly fruity. It’s fig, ripe, jammy and sweet-smelling. It links to a note of black currant that’s fresh and juicy, and its green undertones are heightened by violet leaf.
I am immediately transported back to the Mediterranean coast in late July when the fragrance of figs bursting with ripeness travels on a warm breeze. Soon, the heart opens up to the most tender note of violet. It’s earthy and powdery and hangs in the air, mirrored by a note of earthy powdery iris. There are other flowers here: lily of the valley, mimosa, and rose. They come from those facets of heliotrope and form a subtle, romantic floral bouquet. I can smell the fig through it, and it’s hauntingly beautiful. At the base, the powdery heliotrope shows its creamy, sweet side, while woody, earthy vetiver balances the fruits and flowers, and white musk adds softness and depth.
The drydown is elegant and chic and feminine. There is nothing harsh, heavy or dark about it; yet, as an EDP, it has depth. It seems to float above my skin, as though I have picked up the scent of a summer’s walk along the Promenade des Anglais. I love the way it smells and the way it makes me feel.
Notes: Grapefruit, bergamot, fig, black currant, violet leaf, violet, iris, heliotrope, vetiver and white musk.
